York
Inspired Projects was appointed by Student Castle to transform the communal amenity spaces at its York property. Through a complete refurbishment and interior redesign, the project has created contemporary, welcoming spaces for students to study, socialise and relax, combining thoughtful design with practical, everyday functionality.
Student Castle appointed Inspired Projects to refurbish and rework the communal amenity spaces at its York property, creating a more contemporary, welcoming environment for students.
The aim was to give the spaces a stronger identity while making sure they remained practical for everyday student life with areas to study, socialise, and relax.
The project covered amenity spaces across the ground and first floors, including communal lounges, study areas, collaborative workspaces, meeting spaces, games and recreation areas, café-style seating and the gym.
Works included interior and detailed design, refurbishment and fit-out, flooring, decoration, bespoke joinery, lighting, glazing, FF&E, styling and project management.
The design used a warm, earthy palette of deep greens, terracotta, burgundy, soft pinks and natural timber, helping create a scheme that feels distinctive without being overpowering.
Different finishes, furniture, lighting and decorative details were layered throughout the building, giving each area its own character while keeping the overall look consistent.
Statement lighting, feature tiling, planting and details such as the “This is our happy place” neon sign helped bring personality into the social spaces, while quieter study and meeting areas were designed to feel calmer and more focused.
The completed refurbishment has given Student Castle York’s communal spaces a much stronger identity, with a better balance of social, study and breakout areas for students to use throughout the day.
The response from students has also been really positive. Following completion, we came across organic conversations on TikTok where students were independently discussing the accommodation and its new look, with comments including:
Seeing students respond positively to the finished spaces is a great reflection of the work delivered by the Inspired Projects team.
